From the amount of famous artists in New Orleans, it would appear there is a spirit about the town that draws creative souls. The musical stylings of Dixieland Jazz permeates the French Quarter harking back to the famous musician and local child Louis Armstrong. The trolleys clanging thru the city impressed the title of the Pulitzer Prize winning play "A Streetcar Named Need" by playwrite Tennessee Williams. There are several famous artists from New Orleans and lots more who have responded to the call of the Big Easy 'and moved to the Crescent City to luxuriate in the steamy, jasmine-scented atmosphere.

Enrique Alferez

Enrique Alferez (1901-1999) was a commended sculptor who was born in Mexico and fought with Pancho Villa's military before handling to flee to the U. S.. Alferez studied art in Chicago, and Alferez progress was fast because he had worked with his pop carving wooden religious statues. Alferez discovered New Orleans on a trip home to Mexico in 1929. He lived in other places as well but kept finding himself coming back to New Orleans for the rest of his life. His art was in the Art Deco style and may be seen in numerous public locations round the city, including the floral gardens and the streets of the Central Financial District.

Harry Connick Jr.

Harry Connick Jr. Is a singer, composer, pianist, big-band leader/conductor, and actor who was born and grew up in New Orleans. By age three, Connick was playing a keyboard and was just nine years old when he performed a Beethoven concerto with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. His gigantic break that makes him a famous artists from New Orleans came when actor Rob Reiner commissioned Connick to compose the music for the sound track to the film "When Harry Met Sally". As well as his music, Connick has made appearances in more than 20 films and on countless TV and Broadway shows.

Donald Harrison

Donald Harrison, "The King of Nouveau Swing", is a saxophonist, vocalist and composer who is considered among the most important musicians of the new millennium. He is one of the most accomplished musicians in the country. Harrison is a local of New Orleans and studied at the New Orleans Center for Creative Humanities and Berklee College of Music. He has combined swing with other musical forms to make a sound that is all Donald Harrison.

Anne Rice

Writer Anne Rice is one of the New Orleans famous artists because of her chilling writing about vampires and other creatures in non-physical Gothic fiction. Her 100 million copies sold have also included Christian literature and erotica and make Rice one of the best-selling writers in recent history. She is a native of New Orleans, whose Post Office-employee father also wrote. Her hubby was a poet, and her child is a best-selling author.
