Cold freezing temperatures bring more than just snow. If you live where snow and ice are common, you also live where salt trucks lay down a layer of salt on the roads. This salt gets thrown up on your car as you drive, coating your car with loads of salt.

You know that your car needs a good washing, but how can you do that in the winter? You could spend money at a car wash. You could save the money and wash it yourself with this easy method.

Wait for a warmer day when temperatures are above 35 or so. You will need an inexpensive bottle of baby shampoo without any conditioners or additives. You also need two buckets and a washing mitt.

Of course, you will also need to dress the part. Bundle up if it's cold, and be aware that you may get wet, so wear boots. You may also get kind of dirty, so wear grungy clothes you don't care about. Whatever your weather, prepare head to toe.

Now that you are ready, assemble your supplies and put them near your car. Fill both buckets nearly full with warm water. Don't use hot water or the extreme temperature change could crack your car's finish. Add a couple squirts of baby shampoo to one bucket, and swish the water around with the mitt to mix it up.

First dust off any snow that is on your car. Now, using the mitt, quickly wash the car using the water with the baby shampoo in it. Rub lightly so you don't scratch the finish, just swipe and dip. When you've finished using the mitt all over your car, take the rest of your soapy water and splash it on the top of your car and all around your car.

Once you've finished with the mitt, stand back from the car and toss the rest of your soapy water onto the roof of your car, and anywhere else you can. Once that's done, take your second bucket of water and toss it around on your car to rinse it, again starting with the roof. This is the part where you can really get wet, so be careful. When you're done, put away your tools and go warm up inside.
