Learning guitar chords can help you entertain yourself, your family and your friends. It is something that people usually enjoy learning and listening to. However, it's not always easy. If you are willing to put the time and effort in, you can be entertaining in no time.

Learning to play requires that you follow some basic principles. You have to practice and you have to exercise and prepare your fingers for the work. Learning the finger placements and what the guitar should sound like is one thing, but actually being able to make your hand and fingers do the work is another. They key is being willing to do exercises that make your fingers stronger and make their tips rougher and less susceptible to pain.

Chords are not the same as learning tablature/notes. You must teach your fingers to work together and be used to it. You will have trouble if you are not willing to put the time into this.

Research different stretches for your fingers and use the frets on the guitar to work them in. If this is an effort you are not willing to put in, you will not likely succeed in playing chords clearly.

Start simple with a basic song of three or four chords. This will help you gain confidence and also let you entertain in a short period of time even with just one song. You get practice this way and might find yourself excited to keep learning.

For example, you might learn to play D, G and A as many songs contain these. After you can play them well, you might move onto a different song with the same chords or you might choose do figure out entirely different ones. Picking and strumming patterns will make a difference in how they sound so be sure to find music that interests you.

A good idea is to choose a basic song and use a metronome to start playing. The trick is to begin much slower than the song should actually be played. Go as slow as you need to in order to hit every chord correctly. If this means playing one only once a minute, then so be it.

Whether you use a teacher for lessons or discover your own methods, it is important to keep at it. You can never complete your journey of learning guitar chords if you do not put the effort in. It is a matter of deciding how well you want to be able to play and challenging yourself to do it.
