Me and some dear old friends were passing the time by having lunch the other day. We were at this incredibly popular restaurant downtown. They have a wide variety of music that they play while you eat and enjoy the delicious food. And you can either order straight off the menu, if that's your style, or you can order the mystery meal, and be surprised when it comes.
Then they announced that they were going to give away several prizes. We weren't aware of it, but this was the restaurant's one year anniversary. They wanted to thank all the customers for being loyal for the last year. They had some strange method of choosing the winners, which was based on this big tank of fish they had in the corner. I could hardly contain myself, I was so excited.
Then they showed the prizes. First prize was this portable DVD player. These things have become incredibly popular lately, and for several powerful reasons. One reason is that they can be used on long car trips. If you have kids, then you know important it is to keep the kids quite in the back seat, while mom and dad are in front talking about grownup stuff.
And not only families can benefit from these fantastic things. Any particular person who want to more easily pass time in an otherwise boring situation can find many fantastic uses for these wonderful portable DVD players. My friend told me about his story. At his University you could rent lectures on DVD. If he ever started dozing off during a boring lecture, he would simply watch one of these educational DVDs while the professor was droning on about something.
Another fantastic example is when you get called for jury duty. Instead of sitting there for six hours reading the newspaper or trying to stay awake, you could easily watch a couple of DVDs while waiting to see if your name was going to be called. You can probably imagine how helpful this could be if you've ever been called to jury duty.
