So I was out shopping with my friends the other day. We went to this electronic shop, and were just kind of browsing around. I wasn't really looking to buy anything, just kind of browsing around on a Sunday afternoon. I think I remember my friend saying he wanted one of those new electric scooters or something. But when I saw what they had in stock, I was amazed.

They had these portable DVD players that you could take anywhere. I thought you had to have a TV or some kind of monitor to plug your DVD player into. But these were different. These were completely self contained. They were kind of small, bigger than a cell phone, but smaller than a regular DVD player. Of course this included the screen also. I was overcome with joy, until I realized you'd have to plug it in to some kind of electrical outlet. These can be hard to find in some parts of town.

I was brought back to bliss and happiness when I learned that these little gems can be run from batteries. Some of these have batteries that run for up to six hours. My mind was racing with the possibilities. I could go to McDonalds, buy a hamburger, and watch the latest episodes of Lost. Absolutely and purely fantastic. But wouldn't the sound from my DVD player bother the other coffee drinkers at Starbucks?

That's when I was in for another shock. Most of these DVD players come equipped with little headphone jacks, so when you listen, you can listen in total privacy. Nobody around you would even know what you were watching. They wouldn't be bothered or anything. Pure genius. And you would be able to hear the sound really clearly above all that music they play at Starbucks. But just as I was about to pick one up for purchase, I was hijacked yet again by my imagination. I could never afford one of these marvels. Surely they just cost several hundred, or even a thousand dollars.

That's when I received the biggest shock of the day. They were just barely over a hundred dollars, and some were even less than that! I could probably borrow that much from my friends if I needed to. But of course, in these modern times, most stores accept major credit cards. I grabbed the best one they had and sprinted to the cashier before I changed my mind. And ever since then, me and my DVD player have been best friends.
