It is a wonderful world we live in when you can basically have your home entertainment center in the front pocket of your blue jeans. No longer are we bound to bulky entertainment devices that rely on cords and plugs to make them work. Anything that I can do at home, I can do out in the world. I can do my work from a park bench in the middle of the day as I could from my office. I am not tethered by wires and cords and while it makes most things better, it can put a strain on our free time.

We are at all times linked up, because of this we are more often than not, plugged in. We are by no means distant from being accessible all the time. Some time ago, you would leave messages and attempt to catch someone while they were home or at work. After that it gets to the spot where you could immediately let someone know that you need to talk to them with beepers. Nevertheless, with a pager, you would have to go and find a pay phone to call them back. That meant that you would have to carry a large amount of change in your pockets at all times, this made reaching someone a trace simpler.

Now with cell phones, you can get hold of anybody at anytime and with texting it makes it even more instantaneous. There is no getting away from it or whoever wants to talk to you. The only way to do it is to shut off the phone and leave it at home. Nobody does that, it just doesn't feel right, but you also have to know when to just ignore the ringing and to take some time to yourself.

You can get caught up on the phone and texting and all the other social networking and forget to stay unconnected for just a little bit. People get addicted to this constant communication and always being connected and this fixation with sharing every boring aspect of one's daily life is getting out of hand.

Do we really need to be connected that often? Nobody truly needs to be acquainted with all everything you're thinking and doing every moment of every day. Although to be able to bring a mobile phone into the backwoods when I go out on a trek or when my tire blows out on a gloomy state highway, it is an exceptionally useful device.
