Being a mobile DJ is very different to mixing in your bedroom, or turning up at a club to perform a regular set of a weekend. You need to be ready at a moment's notice to travel to a wedding, party or other venue and set up your DJ equipment.

Finding the right DJ equipment is very important for a mobile DJ. A key feature of everything you buy is that it must be portable, as well as not too bulky or heavy to be moved on your own without the help of another pair of hands.

Once you've found a DJ mixer with at least three channels, you need to track down portable DJ decks. If you aren't using decks and you're using a portable music player or laptop instead, you will need to go for an all in one system such as the Numark iDJ2 Mobile DJ Workstation. Alternatively, pick a DJ mixer with plenty of inputs for all your devices.

You next need to get portable amps and speakers. If you buy these together as an all-inclusive package, it is more likely that they will be powerful enough to support each other and that they will be compatible in other ways.

If you really want to make an impression at your gig, why not consider taking some form of portable lighting with you? There are plenty of affordable options out there, from laser lights to mini strobe lights.

Mobile DJs need a reliable way to get around, so transport is the last thing you need to arrange. Make sure you have unlimited access to a van or a car that will fit all of your DJ equipment into it and that will not break down. You could even put your business logo on the side of it for an extra touch of professionalism.
