There are a number of great PC flight simulator games on the market now. Some of these were originally designed for consoles, whilst others were previously distributed in arcade cabinets. The majority of them were probably deployed solely on the PC platform.
Flight simulator games are popular all over the world, in fact, the same can be said for the video game industry as a whole. A very popular game is Landing High Japan by Taito and fans of flight simulators sit on the edge of their seats waiting for the same producers to create a flight simulator game. The production of Landing High Japan was very true to life and demonstrated excellent features of real life maps of Japanese airports, including Fukuoka, Haneda, Kansai, Fukuoka, Shin-Chitose and Hiroshima.
There were many exceptional features including speech simulation, where users just had to press a button to turn this feature on, helping to make the game experience extremely realistic. The planes were based on original aircraft and players were able to choose which one they wanted to fly. Users flew on All Nippon Airways and it was felt that this sort of computer program would be ideal as an online flight simulator
Taito released flight simulator software for the arcades called Midnight Landing in 1987 and in 1988, released a similar product called Top Landing, which was very similar.
Taito appeared to be waiting for the Power PC603e microprocessor, as it was 1999 before they released their second to last game for the arcades. Developing their hardware may result in a state of the art flight simulator game being released by them. In the meantime, Google has beaten them to it by releasing their own version.
While the Google flight simulator may not be one of the best flight simulators on the market, it can be a decent way to waste some time. Google Earth contains an Easter egg. By pressing Ctrl+Alt+A, or some other similar key combination, players can access the Google flight simulator and take a few trips around the world. Virtual pilots can usually choose between the Cirrus SR22 utility plane and the F16 Viper. The real maps add a certain level of class to the simulator.
If you are looking for extended features for flight simulators, Google's version is probably not the best choice. Their software does utilize Google Earth and makes the flying experience pretty realistic.
There is a popular game by Sentou Yousei Yukikaze, entitled Yousei no Mau Sora, which flight simulator fans hope will be released online. This game was created for Xbox and eventually joined other Japanese PC flight simulators. The best part was that this game was based alongside the anime series, although unfortunately, it was not released in North America. The reason for this is unknown as Anime and Manga have become well-known outside of Japan. Perhaps niche games of this sort may not be popular elsewhere.
