If you are a novice, you most likely have kept the same piece that your instrument was sold with. There is nothing wrong with this approach when initially learning technique. As a player becomes more advanced in skill, it is not uncommon to start trying new setups and techniques. The Bach 3C trumpet mouthpiece should not be overlooked when developing new tones.

Changing this one feature of the instrument can lead to a whole new world of sounds for the musician. The first pieces are usually a narrow opening to aid individuals who are learning how to play. These narrow openings do not deliver a range in tones and have an overall poor sound to them.

A player who switches to a larger lip and opening will instantly notice a difference in sound as well as playing ability. The switch will give a better sound by enabling a clean and crisp tone for the musician. Much of this is the result of the player being able to part their lips further than with the original piece.

When first learning to play, the smaller piece may be the perfect choice when learning techniques. When a person makes the change to the larger piece, it is not uncommon for there to be an adjustment period due to the new muscles that are now being used. This period should not prevent a person from using it, the range of tones it can produce are incredible.

Another reason why the wider opening produces better tones is the vibrations that can be produced from the added space in parting the lips. These vibrations allow the musician to create a wider range of tones while playing. The musician is also able to utilize a better air flow when playing.

The bach 3c trumpet mouthpiece is able to give a player the desired change and control to produce amazing tones. While it can be difficult at first, there is no doubt it delivers better quality. Any serious musician needs to have this simple piece.
