It's that time of the year once more when you find yourself thinking of ideas for your yearly family portrait session. For the past several years, you have stuck to the traditional formal setup, which, although beautiful, seemed to embody nothing unique and different year after year. For a change, you want to come up with something your family will not forget anytime soon.

And then you begin asking yourself what themes can best portray your family. For this purpose, these tips may come in helpful.

What is your family's personality, or probably the activities you all love doing together? Do you all love music? Do you love to go around the world to travel? Are you particularly partial to the colour yellow? Do you have a favourite film or TV show, whose characters have their individual counterparts in your family? Do you have any preference for super heroes?

Let this serve as your inspiration for your family portrait's theme. Putting in props will also make the scene seem more vibrant and real, such as bringing maps, souvenirs, and luggage if you are a group of travellers. Meanwhile, musical instruments would add a nice genuine touch to a portrait of a family of musicians, something photographers would surely have fun capturing.

Speaking of photographers for family portraits, you also need to choose the best one for your own needs. Photographers are not created alike; likewise, something that seems beautiful for one might not ring true for another. This is where you should look at sample family portraits a photography studio took. From here, you can evaluate how capable they are of converting your concept in mind into reality.

Don't hesitate to ask for suggestions on other creative ideas from your photographer. Likewise, you can always ask for tips on how you can improve your concept even more and make it more photogenic. Keep in mind that the more the creative input that goes into your family portrait, all the better it gets.
