I'm sure if you take proper care of the camera it will last and not leak. I purchased the 6020 for going on a Disney Bahamas cruise and it worked GREAT! I love this camera, and its predecessor the Olympus 770 SW (which worked fine, but I lost it). However, after less than 3 weeks of use, it will turn on but then nothing else happens, and the power button has to be pressed twice to turn it off, because the first time the lens cover closes then opens again.
Good thing I also brought a higher quality Olympus digital camera with me which produced 100% crystal clear pictures. Buy this and use this for when you are IN the pool where this can get wet, but don't use it as a day to day camera.....you'll get better picture quality elsewhere. The way to reproduce the problem is to take a towel or a slightly damp fingertip and gently sweep downward. The metal screen will move and stay in the mid position you leave it rather than bounce back up when released to assume it position to protect the screen. It has been about 3 months and now the camera won't even turn on. I'm sending it back to Olympus, we will see, I researched "Tough" Cameras for a few months before I made my purchase. My last model offers an amazing variety of filters and different shoot modes. In the water is so easy to use and takes amazing pictures.
Well with 4 kids we needed something tough. This is a great sturdy camera. I went surfing with a friend that had this camera and ever since then I wanted, no I NEEDED this camera. Luckily my wife dropped our old camera (from three feet) and the whole thing broke.
The factory does make errors. This is actually my 2nd one I had some water leaking issues with the 1st one and Olympus was very easy to work with in resolving my issue. By the way, I have successfully used the 6020 in my community pool for testing underwater and I am looking forward to my upcoming vacation to Aruba this month. I have had the camera for a few days now and really put it through the paces.
My family and I went on a dolphin excursion and the camera took some amazing pictures and videos (above and below water). Overall: GREAT, GREAT, GREAT BUY!
I thought I had bought an indestructible camera for my teenage daughter. This camera did NOT function out of the box. I bought this as a fix so that I could at least take some pictures while snorkeling. Out of the box, this camera was awful.
Consider that it is a point and shoot. I don't think that you can get much better for under $300.
