Christmas season is here. It is time for a Christmas play! People are caroling in the streets and masses are running from store to store getting their Christmas shopping done. What I wonderful time of year. Such great amounts of joy can be felt during the Christmas season. There are so many Christmas traditions out there and everyone's views of Christmas is different, but to me, no Christmas is ever complete without a good old Christmas play. A great Christmas play can depict everything wonderful about the season, the meaning of Christmas, great and wonderful things to do during the winter and the joys of giving to one another.

A Christmas play or any other Christmas performance can widely differ from that of another Christmas play or performance. Some focus more on the giving of presents and the shopping and everything else leading up to the actual holiday. Where as another play can really depict the actual Christmas day and how great of an importance it has. In the book "The best Christmas pageant ever" there is a Christmas Play about the real meaning of Christmas.

Although the play was simple, we can learn many great and important things about the Holidays. It isn't about the gifts or shopping. But about the birth of Christ and how important it was for Him to come into the world. It also shows us that anyone can feel and be a part of the spirit of Christmas. The cast in the book were a group of the roughest, toughest kids there ever where. With some of the worst potty mouths out there, yet their hearts were changed in the performing of the play.

My favorite type of Christmas play is a play about the birth of Christ. The true "Christmas story". No other play can really capture the spirit of Christmas and why it is that we celebrate the birth of Christ without it being centered around Christ or have a lot of symbolism with religious undertones. My family always tries to put on a little play every Christmas. During this we have the most basic and simple set that you can imagine. With a cast of family members ranging from two to mid fifties and everyone filling the different roles from the baby Jesus, to the wise men, to the sheep and other animals. In our own little Christmas play you can really understand what Christmas is about and the great feeling of unity and love that can be found in the season.

Christmas plays will always slightly differ, but one thing that should never be missing in one of these plays is the reason why we celebrate this glorious time of year. A Christmas play may be about a man who hates Christmas to the fullest and doesn't want anything to do with it or anyone to celebrate it. But then is visited by three Christmas spirits to teach him what it is that he is forgetting about the Christmas season. Or maybe it can be a Christmas play about being with your family and the importance of love to all our fellow beings. All in all, a Christmas play may differ greatly in story from others. But they won't stray from teaching what is really important in life.
