The demand for historical non fiction books has never been greater. With the increased choice of formats now available, either by the traditional paper method, or the more recent addition of the e-book, many more people are now taking the opportunity to venture into this genre. It is after all, through history that the story of mankind is told.

Learning about past events, gives an insight into the lives and culture of the people at that time. It charts the major events, including battles for the conquest of land, the way the people were governed and their belief systems. In today's technological age, a lot of information is readily available through the internet.

This however, was not always the case. The very first tomes were written by hand, on parchment or vellum. This was a very labor intensive job, and several different people may have be needed to produce one volume. These books were highly treasured, and some were also beautifully illustrated with pictures, depicting the written words, as relatively few people could actually read.

As these early tomes were very rare, they were also very expensive. Only the affluent section of the society at that time, would ever had chance of viewing one. These early volumes did however, record what was happening at that time, so in effect were the very earliest history books.

With the arrival of the printing press in the sixteenth century, things at last began to change. It was now possible for a much larger percentage of the population, to get access to printed publications. Literacy rapidly increased during this time, as people quickly realised that being able to read, was one way that they could improve their lifestyle, and that of their family. Knowledge and information was as much in demand then, as it is today.

Many fine libraries are located in some of the most famous universities across the world. Unfortunately, the only people who can benefit from these splendid collections are the students and professors. During the nineteenth century, several countries started to make introduce municipal libraries, which were available to all members of the public. It was now possible for anyone to read about a large variety of subjects.

Over the centuries there have always been individuals who have wanted to collect books. This is apparent in the Royal Library of Alexandria which existed over two thousand years ago, and is said to have contained in excess of 400,000 books at that time. Today, book collectors across the world, hold many early and rare volumes in their private vaults.

Today, sales continue to increase across the world. The need to acquire knowledge and information has never been more important to people, who want to learn the answer to their many different questions. If you are interested in historical non fictions books, you will find a wide selection of titles available from some excellent suppliers, whose details are available on the internet.
