Almost seventy private companies offer car insurance Alberta. Choosing the best coverage from all these companies can be daunting. The driver wants to make sure that the policy is affordable and that they are covered adequately. No one wants to be caught short. In Canada all drivers must not only have liability but also pay for their medical coverage and loss of income coverage. If the driver in Alberta wants to they can purchase additional coverage such as collision, vandalism, theft, flood and windstorm.

Insurance rates vary depending on where one lives in the province, the demographic one belongs to and what kind of car is being insured. Car theft tends to be conducted by organized crime groups where the cars are stripped down and sold for parts outside of the country.

Alberta created a policy grid in 2004 to bring down the cost of policies based on each individual's driving record. Many young people who were safe drivers were paying for the bad driving habits of others in their age group. It successfully brought rates down but safe drivers are still paying for the bad driving habits of others for the basic minimum policy.

Another change that was made was that accident victims with minor injuries could get treatment without approval from the companies. The time spent in waiting for an answer from the companies was costing too much money since victims were getting reimbursed for time away from work. The sooner they returned to work the lower the rates could be kept. Keeping people sitting around and waiting for answers was costing the insurance company money.

The premium grid system is still being used but is constantly being worked on to make it better. The one disadvantage to this system is that good drivers are still paying for the bad drivers since there is a cap on the premium payments.

An Albertan beginning driver must be at least 14 to apply for a learner's permit. Approval from their parents is required if under eighteen. A vision test and riving test are required to pass. They must be sixteen year's of age before they are eligible to apply for a regular license. The can remain learners for five years but must have a licensed driver at least 18 in the car with them at all times. Demerit points are given if they break any driving laws.

Rates are constantly changing so it is a good idea to check a Canadian website that shows the daily auto rate quote for the different cars on the road. It suffices to type in the postal code and to cross reference what comparable companies in Alberta are requiring for rate payments. Many private companies offer free quotes and policy purchases online. There is a live chat provided as well as a toll free number. Payment is accepted by any major credit card.

Auto insurance Edmonton offers additional discounts to people who are residents of Edmonton or in the military. auto insurance Alberta is proud of the Grid Rate Calculator which helps residents of Alberta determine the amount of their basic coverage. It was established to keep rates down based on the individual driver's driving record, where they live, years of driving experience and the number of driving convictions.
