Driving has already been part of the Americans' lives. The skills as a motorist are mostly taken for granted since what happens if we have never had any accident is we think we are already very safe while on the road. This is exactly why there are too many car, truck or motorcycle crashes happening today. And unfortunately, we only get to realize things only after a traumatic experience happens to us. Likewise, things like vehicle collision are only realized after there is the experience already. But these things dealing with smashing and collisions are very dangerous which means second chances are only seen very rarely to happen.

Clearly, before you start to drive on the road you must be able to realize how important to learn the principles, theory and practice of defensive driving. The name even speaks for its nature, and that is being defensive. It is designed to protect you. Defensive driving is quite simple to understand when being defined. Simply, it means "driving to save lives, time, and money, not letting the conditions around you and the actions of others affect you." Yes it is clearer now but what are the possible tactics persons can use to make sure they are operating their conveyance in the maximally safe fashion?

> Learn about the two second rule. This is a way to teach the drivers a way to estimate safe distances between cars when traveling at speed. There are landmarks that a driver can use to estimate the correct distance from him to the one vehicle in front of him so that there can be ample time to hit the breaks if any mishaps can happen. Some landmarks that can be used are telephone pole, streetlight or any other regularly occurring feature. There will also be reduction of tailgating and rear-end collisions.

> Put your head on the road. Distracted driving leads you to no other thing but dangerous driving. You can see very many variables on all highways, street, or the interstate. You are just making yourself prone to crucial tragedy, crashes, and even death if you tend to disregard even just a little bi if the variable. Such pedestrians at intersections, children walking on sidewalks, or even the unpredictable actions of other drivers are important things you have to consider all the time.

> Familiarize and fit to road conditions. There are events that requires your instant judgment. Examples are when you are driving at night, in inclement weather, or around accidents. A better reaction can be made when you are already prepared that these thing may happen. You must be calm and alert. Learn to utilize your headlights, turn signals, hazard indicators and your horn to keep a safe presence.

> Take care of your vehicle. Maintain regular check-up of your tires, belts, hoses, lamps and brakes. Usually, people in an accident do not admit or think that they will be the offending party responsible for the chaos that follows on the road. Many people tend to suffer agonizing injuries, destroyed property, and shattered lives because of loose piece of equipments which can be prevented from happening if there was regular checking of the vehicle.

Finally, it really is up to the person, whether he is driving any vehicle, be it motorcycle, automobile, big rig or whatever internal combustion powered mechanism of choice, to stay safe and to work on it real hard to make this possible.
