LG Electronics, located in South Korea, is one of the largest manufacturers of consumer electronics. They have rolled out a very impressive line of blu-ray players. Here are some of the major features offered in various models of LG bluray player.

The blu-ray standard defines a new kind of optical disc that is similar in appearance to the DVD that has become so popular in recent years. Blu-ray disks have a much higher capacity than DVDs and can store video content with a significantly higher resolution. Whereas DVDs support 480 lines of video, blu-rays have 1080, more than twice as many.

All of the LG players support the blu-ray standard, including high resolution video and enhanced digital sound. They all support older media including DVDs, audio CDs, and many other formats. DVD video is upscaled to 1080P for superior video quality. They all have the ability to play content from USB storage devices. They support BD-Live, which provides Internet access to extra content related to a specific blu-ray disc

They all provide access to Internet media via ethernet connection, though some support more providers than others. Basic access includes YouTube, Picasa, and Accuweather. Expanded access adds Netflix, Roxio CinemaNow, Pandora, and Vudu. Those who have their computers already connected to their television may not find much value added from this feature. Those who do not, which is probably a large majority, will soon appreciate the ability to view this material on a large screen and to easily share it with groups.

The BD570 adds support for Home Link, which can access and play content stored on computers in the home network. It also adds built in Wi-Fi connectivity, which is convenient when the player is not located close to a router. It has the expanded access to Internet content.

The BD590 has a 250GB hard drive. It can use this to store content such as videos, music, and photos. It has the potential to be the family archive for this material. Its built in Wi-Fi makes it very location flexible.

The BX580 has 3d capability. There is not a lot of 3d material available yet, but there are some 3d blu-ray discs now. Those who have been exposed to 3d movies in theaters may find the draw of this capability hard to resist. This should be an area for great expansion in the near future.

LG has a leadership role in electronics for consumers. All of these players are good choices for different situations. Those who have decided to go blu-ray should look into the LG bluray player family.
