Waterston Entertainment and Corporate Media successfully fulfilled a brief to produce Training DVD's for staff as well as Product Launch DVD's for Discovery Health. Discovery Health wanted to inform and train staff through the means of an interesting and informative media. Waterston Corporate Media took that brief and understood the challenges involved and developed an entirely new approach to staff training and motivation. The end result proved to be worth it as the brokers involved in training thoroughly enjoyed the new approach and were learning at the same time. Discovery now have new and improved training tools and sales have increased with more confident brokers and better company morale.

This brief came with many challenges for the Waterston team, as they discovered that there are many misunderstood components of marketing in this fashion. Many existing ideas about how useful promotional videos are and how costly they can be, had to be changed. A product was needed that had a long shelf life and that would not date too quickly. This is a challenge when writing a script. Wanting to fit too much information in makes scripts long and this is what can make the procedure lengthy and costly. Costs also rise when members are unhappy and want to change the talking script after shooting, only editing can be done at this point. Although budgeting has to be done carefully for this kind of marketing, it has proved its worth by providing a short and punchy overview that can be used for promotional material at exhibitions, with potential investors as well as with members and clients.

An entertaining and unique method of training and informing was created by the Waterston Corporate Media team in the form of an interactive video game. This game can be used in the staff and broker training environment and gives a game show feel as the trainees are learning. Making use of real actors and a cleverly animated environment, multiple choice questions are posed to each team or individual and using hand held key pads, answers can be keyed in. A central computer keeps track of the scores and gives results at the end. This game show atmosphere created a truly winning experience at the Annual Sales and Marketing Conference that Discovery held recently. With the theme of Witches and Wizards, the conference was unique, entertaining and successful.

Four pods of 80 participants were seated in round-table formation facing a circle of 8 plasma screens. On this mysterious "inner circle" the players were able to navigate their way through a series of product-specific, interactive Discovery Chambers and record their scores on electronic tags. Each participant could then test their knowledge in a friendly environment and even be rewarded at the end of the evening. Using green screens in the executive interviews allowed the insert of moving corporate graphic visuals to run behind them. This high end corporate look and feel gives an impressive first impression and is highly effective at promoting a company.

The closing gala dinner at the conference was the crown on top as delegates were transported via a magical reveal to the Wizards Academy. With clever use of the theme, captivating animation and a great deal of technical support via a hub of central computers, the 'game training' method proved to be a successful and worthwhile investment.
