When the best NBA players come to mind, Dwyane Wade is right up there with Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and others. And with good reason. Wade is a premier player in the NBA, and has found great success with the Miami Heat in his five years in the league.
One of the game's top scorers, Wade has a huge base of fans, and not only consisting of those who like the Heat. While Miami attendance is typically low, Wade had more jerseys with his name on it sell than any other jersey in the NBA for about two seasons.
Having been picked at the number 5 spot in the 2003 draft, the Heat drafted Wade, out of Marquette at the time and a highly anticipated rookie. Wade quickly established his presence in the league, leading the Heat to a championship in 2006.
Wade has also found success with the US Olympic teams. While the 2004 campaign was unsuccessful (the US just won a bronze), Wade bounced back strong in 2008, helping the US basketball team to a gold in China.
Wade's versatility makes him unique in the sense that he can play both shooting guard and point guard. He has usually led his team in scoring and assists, and has even come close to leading the Heat in rebounds. He seems to do it all on the court.
Wade led the NBA in scoring during the 2008-2009 season after an injury-ridden 2007-2008 campaign. He also led the Heat back to the playoffs last season.
Wade is able to get to the free throw line seemingly at will; he ranked first in free-throw attempts per 48 minutes in 2004-05 and again in the 2006-07 season. He has proven himself an unselfish player, averaging 6.4 assists per game. Wade is a devout Christian and chose the number 3 because it represents the Holy Trinity.
Wade is extremely close with his family, and loves to spend time with his kids (Zaire Blessing and Dwyane Junior), as well as Siohvaughn, his wife.
