However, wands can't change its owners, but before a wand can be used by another wizard, its master should be disarmed, stunned or be killed.

Wands in both movie and book series adds significant amount of energy to its wielder, allowing ability to cast big magical feats. However, it is important to note that this tool mainly acts as source of magical powers. It's not the wand that has the power, it's still the wizard, and the wand is just there to help the wizard use full advantage of its magic. To put it into perspective, think of the wand as a sort of a magnifying glass, and the wizard's power is a ray of sunlight - the sunlight's heat is magnified through the glass, causing it to burn a hole in anything.

In the context of the Harry Potter universe, it is the wand that chooses its wizard, and not the other way around. In the film, an old man named Mr. Olivander who owns a wand shop in Diagon Alley, is said to be the best wand maker in the world. His closest rival is Gregovith, he makes European wands. Both wand makers for example, use interesting materials such as Dragon's heartstring and Unicorn hair - these two are the core material of most wands aside from special wood like chestnut, mahogany, and yew. Lesser wands on the other hand, are usually made up of Veela hair.

The magic in Harry Potter wands are all unique, and as a matter of fact, each wand seems to have its own unique personality and traits. They will do everything to protect its master and remain loyal all throughout its lifetime.
