Acoustic Guitar Lessons are easily found just about anywhere. There are teachers in most towns that teach from music stores or from their own home. Many schools offer group guitar lessons or you may find a group lesson at a local church. Acoustic Guitar Lessons can be found on the Internet in both informative article lessons and video lessons.

Guitar is an easy instrument to play because the notes go by half step on the fret board of the instrument. When you learn where certain notes are on that fret board you can usually find all of the notes you need. To make it even easier there are several ways to play each note on the fret board on different strings.

Learning to play acoustic guitar differs from learning electric guitar. You may notice that the guitars are quite different. Acoustics are wide and made out of wood while electrics are usually very thin and made out of metal. Acoustic Guitars usually do not have an amplification system that is internal. You have to use a microphone or other device to make it sound louder.

If you pluck the strings of an acoustic guitar you can hear the notes from a distance. But, if you pluck the strings of an electric guitar that is off you won't hear it very far at all. Once it is turned on it can be heard from quite a distance.

There are other differences in the way an acoustic guitar is played. Both electric and acoustic employ the use of a pick to pluck the strings, but the acoustic guitar player does not need to use a pick. They can strum with the fingers or do what is called finger picking.

One of the first things you are taught when you take guitar lessons is how to situate yourself in order to hold it. You usually see people playing the electric guitar standing using a strap to hold it to the body. Electric guitar players can also sit while learning. In most cases an acoustic guitar player sits to play, although they can stand if they like, but if you wish to play classically you will need to learn the manner in which to sit so the fret board is positioned correctly.

The second thing almost every guitar player needs to learn and will probably be part of that first lesson is how to tune the guitar. Guitar strings slip and go out of tune. You will either be taught to tune the guitar by touching certain frets on different strings that make the same note or by using a device. You can tune it if you know what the notes are by tuning it to a piano. They are from the bottom E, A, D, G, B, and E again. Electronic tuners are available as well and your teacher can teach you or read the directions.

Strumming or picking the strings of your guitar and reading music or guitar tablature should be next in lessons. Beginners are taught picking methods including picking in a downward fashion called down picking or using the pick upward and downward on the string called flat picking. Exercises of moving up and down the fret board will be next and your teacher should teach you some of the notes on the fret board and how to play a few chords.

All guitar players must practice in order to become proficient at their instrument. Plan on taking about one half an hour out of your day to go over your lessons. Look for lessons on guitar on the Internet, on videos, and in books prior to employing a teacher. This will give you the basics of playing and a teacher can then help you to improve your technique and give you pointers especially for you.
