Heart like a Wheel: Well-made although curiously uninspiring bio of race-car driver Shirley each other and much discussion is unintelligible to American ears (albeit if you might make it through the first reel, hang on). Alien Nation: In the near future, a race of strange-looking aliens is gradually (and grudgingly) being integrated into civilization. Worldweary L.A. cop Caan takes one of the aliens on as his partner, so he could track down the aliens who murdered his prior associate. Cast includes James Caan, Mandy Patinkin, Terence Stamp, Kevin Chief Howard, and Leslie Bevins. (94 minutes, 1988)

Foxfire: An adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates' novel in reference to 4 high school gals who form a clique while an enigmatic lady drifter comes to town. The cast tries however they're finished in by a terrible script that plays like an R-rated After School Particular. Cast includes Hedy Burress, Angelina Jolie, Jenny Lewis, Jenny Shimizu, Sarah Rosenberg, Peter Facinelli, Streak Mihok, Cathy Moriarty, Richard Beymer, and John Diehl. (102 minutes, 1996)

Sensations of 1945: Fame hungry Powell shows a press representative O'Keefe how to entice focus in this campy musical. One marvelous number has her tap dancing inside mammoth pinball game. Cast includes Eleanor Powell, Dennis O'Keefe, C. Aubrey Smith, Eugene Pallette, W. C. Territories, Cab Calloway, and Sophie Tucker. (86 minutes, 1945)

Night Nurse: Phenomenal, hard story of nurse (Stanwyck) who couldn't disregard bizarre goings on in home where she works. Blondell adds zingy aid and it is one of Gable's most impressive early appearances. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, Ben Lyon, Joan Blondell, Clark Gable, Charlotte Merriam, and Charles Winninger.

Rambling Rose: Evocative story set in 1930s Georgia, with Dem as an oversexed senseless gal who comes to work for a ladylike family headed by Duvall and Ladd. Vibrant, pleasantly detailed, and well performed, with numerous delightful astonishments during the voyage. Cast includes Laura Dem, Rohert Duvall, Diane Ladd, Lukas Haas, John Heard, Kevin Conway, Rohert J. Burke, Lisa Jakub, and Evan Lockwood. (112 minutes, 1991)

Rent-a-Kid: While the head of an orphanage takes a holiday, dad Nielsen takes over with a plan to raise money by renting out kids. While unsurprising, this stupid premise is surprisingly effective. Eventually 3 youngsters are rented by a hip '90s couple considering adopting. A respectable family flick. Cast includes Leslie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd, Matt McCoy, Sherry Miller, and Amos Crawley. (89 minutes, 1995)

The Gorgeous Hussy: Megastars fill the cast in this fictionalized historical drama of Peggy O'Neal, President Andrew Jackson's secret lover. The cast is beautifully costumed in well assigned settings. The movie is based on the novel by Samuel Hopkins Joyce. Cast includes Joan Crawford, Robert Taylor, Lionel Barrymore, Franchot Tone, Melvyn Douglas, James Stewart, Alison Skipworth, Beulah Bondi, and Gene Lockhart. (102 minutes, 1936)
