Whether to buy the Epiphone Les Paul guitar or not is a favourite topic to be discussed by people who like to play a guitar as well as other music lovers. Guitars such as the Epiphone Les Paul are affordable but not cheap; you get an inexpensively priced quality guitar.

During the 19th century, Anastasios Stahopulous, a Turkish instrument maker went to live with his family in the US bringing with him his expertise in making musical instruments with strings. It was the year 1903 when they moved in the US and started a company. The company he set up was quite successful in the United States.

He made a company solely based on his craft. The timing was right since America took a liking to these musical string instruments. In 1928, the family began making the first Epiphone model. The name originated from Epamimondas, the name of the guitar maker's son. However, Gibson bought the guitar company in 1957.

The first Les Paul guitar model came into being in the 1950's when Gibson, the new owner, created and produced them based on the designs made by Les Paul himself, a famous guitarist and a guitar inventor too. At first, Les Paul's initial plans and sketches on how a solid body guitar should look was ignored by Gibson.

Thereafter, Gibson made an electric guitar of solid built which was named after the famed guitarist and inventor, Les Paul. Les Paul made a design for the body of the guitar but the first design was turned down by the company. However, Gibson did seek suggestions from him when they were coming up with their own design and in fact, Les Paul himself endorsed this guitar throughout the country.

Today, the Epiphone Les Paul guitars are actually the inexpensive version of the original Gibson guitar. These guitars are created in Korea where labour cost is low and the materials are cheap which is basically why the Epiphone is not expensive like the standard Les Paul guitar.

But because of the notion that cheap guitars are of low quality, people often find themselves arguing over it. Some would say that the tone is not at par with the original Gibson Les Paul guitars, and others would say the Epiphone necks are not very user-friendly.

Moreover, they added that the structure of the Epiphone's neck also makes it difficult for the user to hold. Some would further say that due to the cheap materials used, the model really is inferior to the original Gibson guitars.

The truth of the matter is that the Epiphone is very much the same as the standard Les Paul guitar, built with more mahogany pieces, yet the sound is the same.

The Epiphone guitar is made from more pieces of mahogany but the structure is still the same and just like the original, creates a beautiful sound. Guitar users have not reported any difference from the original and the new version. It only needs to be tuned properly.
