Many people toy with the idea of India holidays; it is a vast sub-continent with so many places to see and so much to offer the visitor. If you fancy yourself as the adventurous type of holiday maker, why not take the plunge and make your next holiday the holiday of a lifetime?
As far as spell-binding scenery goes, there is nothing quite like India for this. The different areas are so divers in the kind of eco systems that you have the Himalayas at one end, deserts at another and rain or evergreen forests too. If you fancy a peek into paradise however, there is really only one place to visit in India and this is Goa, it is not called the pearl of the orient for nothing.
The peninsula which is India is 6 700 km long and this means there are a great many beautiful places to visit, however people seem to concur that Goa is the best you will ever see. It is a land of fantastic beauty, unparalleled by anything else you will see in the world. If you long golden beaches, beautiful seas and fantastic forested hills, then Goa it is!
The Portuguese discovered Goa for the western world when they were traveling in search of the spice islands, they populated it and dominated it for 450 years. In a way this is what makes Goa so special, the combination of exotic India together with a Mediterranean atmosphere. Latin and Indian cultures intermingle, and the Hindu religion is still widely practiced in Goa despite the duration of the Christian influence.
Narrow streets and red tiled roofs feature, giving Goa that look of the Mediterranean, but the food belies this and the most delicious vindaloo, tandoori and rice can be found. Make no mistake you will also find chourisso, no Portuguese colony worth its salt would not leave behind their legacy in the form of this spicy sausage.
The Goan's offer the best in hospitality, great food and drink and the local port wine is delicious. Taverna's also serve a locally made drink called "feni" which is made of cashew and coconut, and the only other place in the world I have drunk feni is in Brazil, strangely enough, also once a Portuguese colony. I'll say this for the Portuguese; they certainly got around in the past.
