Tires that are damaged or in need of repair can cause a vehicle to vibrate. When the tire treads on a vehicle are not evenly distributed or are too low, the car may start to vibrate, whether you are traveling fast or slow. If your tires are unbalanced, this causes vibration as well. You should do maintenance right away if you feel even the slightest bit of vibration when driving your car. Vibration can make you more susceptible to being involved in an accident. In general, keeping your car properly maintained can prevent the need for repairs, which can be quite expensive. Here is a list of things you can do to keep your tires in good shape.

1. Balance your tires.

Properly balanced tires will keep your vehicle running smoothly and prevent vibration. You can apply weights to the inner and outer rims of your tires on your car to properly maintain and balance the tires if they are found to be unbalanced. You can see if there are weights on both sides of the rim of your tire by turning your car's steering wheel to one side. If there is a weight on the rim of the tire, the vibration could be caused by that extra weight. This means that some maintenance is required.

2. Search for any type of rim damage.

If unbalanced tires are not to blame there are other factors to consider, such as bends, breaks or cracks that can also contribute to vibrations in a car. A damaged rim is a serious matter that requires attention as it can lead to additional high cost repairs to the body of your car, your wheel assembly, or tires. This means that rim damage also needs to be repaired immediately.

3. Check for damage or defects in the tires itself.

Carefully examine your tires for any unusual bulging or bubbles. Examiner the entire surface of the tire, this will require you to roll the ire forward. If you find any kind of defect on the surface of the tire, this could be the source of the vibration.

4. Check the Tread.

Another cause of vibration in a car can stem from unevenly distributed tire treads. Your tire tread should be checked on a regular basis so you can be sure that each tire is wearing evenly. Rotating your tires often will prevent this from happening. The best way to do it is to move the front right tire to the back left and the front left tire to the back right to effectively rotate your tires. Tire rotation is a great way to ensure that your tire treads are distributed evenly.

For those that are so inclined, there are vehicle vibration controls that can assist in the assessment and diagnosis of your car's vibration problem. These controls will signal that there is a problem, which you should have repaired as soon as possible.
