This camera has a blade type shutter cover over the lens that slips behind the body on operation and is quite clunky.
I have not had a chance to see if it is waterproof or not after the repair. Does what it's built to do.
If you were talking, sure it's not a problem. So if you take a lot of movies, you might want to go with another camera. My husband hands it to me and it is extremely warm. I try to shut it off and it won't shut off. Nice features. Best buy has it on sale for 269.
We are consulting engineers and need cameras to record status and progress of large construction projects. Hazardous duty for any electronic equipment and we have lost cameras when dropped or from water, dust, etc.
If you open it while it is wet or your hands are wet, then you should expect problems. After videotaping under water, I waited the suggested time, and made sure it was all dry, then opened the camera up to hook up to my computer. The quality of photos is great. I love it. So now I ended up spending a lot of money on a broken camera. I'm hoping Olympus will fix it and that I just got a bad apple.
I would recommend this camera for rain, the beach and poor weather but I hesitate to say it should be submerged. Have a backup if you are away on vacation (just in case).
I love it so much! I like the panoramic feature of the camera and the multi shot capabilities. When we tried to troubleshoot, it referred us to an owner's manual. Again, it did not come with any printed owner's manual OR software although the internal manual also referenced included software.
I didn't do this and was not actually aware of that. It seems a bit high maintenance. This camera worked only once half through my Maui vacation. Took some great pictures and videos in the water then suddenly would not turn on after I shoot some pictures in the water. I bought this camera to take on a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park. Our itinerary included lots of hiking, kayaking and just outdoor activities in general.

Also the pictures always seemed to turn out blurry; I'd have to take several pictures of the same frame to get a good one. cheap leather recliner chairs.
