Most famous artists have proven that the old adage about art being a way to immortality is true. So many books and documentaries have been dedicated to the artists who pioneered what we now know as art. Because art is highly subjective, so many debates have arisen regarding what we can classify as modern or contemporary art. After the second world war, a group of artists decided to create a movement that has become the turning point for artistic creation in the world. Contemporary artists are those who created their masterpieces in response to the post-war art movement.

About American Abstraction

After the war era, abstract expression became the trend. One can call abstraction as a movement that artists at that time came up with. During this time, New York became a hub for budding contemporary artists. Some of the best contemporary art pieces are shown in California contemporary art museums.

Looking at the list of contemporary artists that have made it in the past, one can see a pattern. Because art was already defined in a way (from the European artists of old), critics have become somewhat jaded when contemporary art came around. Most contemporary artists create exhibits that either become a hit or flop completely. Usually, the artwork that was created should have something new to offer. The art should be unique and not merely a nostalgic remembrance of another famous artist.

In a way, we can say that the artistic community gave birth to and has nurtured the growth of modern art. A piece should pass through the keen eyes of various critics to be considered a piece of art. For the reason that most contemporary artists create art as extensions of their emotions, they are more sensitive to the acclaim or rejection by the modern art community.

What's in Store for Budding Artists?

Can anyone create a few dots on a canvas and call it art? Unfortunately, the more art evolves, the more picky the art world is when it comes to selecting heroes and idols. Many components are considered, including originality, balance and symmetry (or the reason for the lack thereof). While art is a form of self expression, many artists are confronted with the challenge of finding their true potential amidst the influences of the early artists they admire. Modern artists who can find their own place in the art world and consistently adhere to their own unique style are usually the ones that make it.
