Any musician knows that one of the keys to sounding great every single time he or she performs is through maintaining the instrument. This means that the strings and fingerboard must be kept clean. If they are not properly cleaned, a large buildup of debris can occur, causing the sound of the strings to be muddy and unpleasant. Failing to keep things clean can also make playing the instrument difficult. Most often, people will clean the strings and fingerboard with separate cleaners, but you may want to look into an all in one string cleaner and fret board cleaner system instead.

Each time you play a stringed instrument, dirt is left behind on the strings and on the fret board. This dirt may consist of dead skin, oils, and anything else that you have touched. Over time, this builds up if the instrument is not cleaned.

Most people clean the fingerboard and strings with separate products. This takes time and causes some people to neglect cleaning their instruments. This can lead to string and fingerboard damage, which is why regular cleaning should be performed.

To save time and effort, a multi-purpose cleaner can be used. Some of these are very easy to use. For example, some systems require you to wrap a special cleaning cloth around the strings so that it is also touching the fret board. This cloth is left on the instrument whenever it is not in use. Once it is removed, the strings and fingerboard have been cleaned.

Most multi-purpose instrument cleaners consist of a spray that is used with a microfiber cloth. All you have to do is spray it on and wipe it off.

If you do not clean your instrument enough because you do not have the time to use multiple products, an all in one cleaner may be right for you. However, do not purchase or use a cleaner without first making sure that it is compatible with the type of wood that your instrument is made from.
