In the world of rock, one specific sub genre known went from very unpopular to popular over time when fans began to show their support. This sub genre is known as Christian Rock Charlotte and is one of the fastest growing sub genres of this kind of music. Not only has this kind of music grabbed a lot of young and old Christian fans alike, but this type of music has also garnered a lot of fans that are non Christians as well.

Now for the longest time, many Christians have been against rock music stating that this genre is known to be evil in nature due to the nature of their sounds, their vocals, and their lyrics. Most of these songs during those days were actually sexual in theme or violent which prompted many Christians to say that rock is the music of the devil. However, many unconventional people thought otherwise and decided to create gospel songs in this genre.

Now one of the very few bands that started this revolution is known as the Crusaders. Although initially they did not have that much popularity because of the anti rock mentality of most Christians, the band eventually became widely accepted, especially from the youth. Although the Crusaders were among the first to spread the genre, it was Larry Norman who was the one who really popularized the sub genre. He was a musician and lyricist who was looked upon by a lot of artists during that time and became one of the core influences of many bands today. It was because of this man that the sub genre was slowly able to seep into the secular music world and became more well known by many.

Now if one would look at popularity, then probably the most popular of all the bands of this sub genre would be Stryper. Now for those who do not know, this band is a glam metal band that emerged as the most popular of all rock bands of this sub genre. Not only did they get the appeal of the Christians but they also got the appeal of non Christians too.

In the eighties, the music world was dominated by the presence of thrash metal bands with the big four being Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer. During the late eighties, one band came out with a Christian label known as Tourniquet and became popular for their thrash sound. In fact, they were also compared to the big four but were never placed there because of the complexity in their music.

The nineties saw the emergence of so many more popular bands like Relient K, Skillet, and so many more. This sparked the growth of the sub genre by ten fold. The bands of this genre in fact reached the mainstream market and gained many non Christian fans.

So as one can see, this sub genre is growing fiercely. With so many bands coming out these days, the growth of this type of music is impressive. This can be seen especially in Charlotte SC with many news bands coming out from there.
