There are a number of social networking websites which hosts information for individuals interested in the arts. Many in the online performing artist community have been using these sites for information and to establish a presence on the web. Whether an individual is interested in art, dance, music, poetry, theater or other areas of the art world these networking oriented websites have a lot to offer.

Individuals may also want to look for local organizations which focus on a specific art such as dance or music. These sites often provide information on local events, performances and venues. In some cases, these social networking sites will also allow members to communicate with one another on discussion boards and forums.

While Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites are often fan or friend based, these sites offer artists the chance to share with other artists. Most often, a site will offer the opportunity to post comments, events, reviews and other pertinent information. The best of these sites offer audio and video components which members can use to listen to music and watch videos.

Since the inception of the internet, online radio stations have become more prevalent. Last.fm and other sites operated and run by listeners allow individuals to focus on specific music, news and announcements. Whereas, it is often rare to find a local or national radio station offering only the type announcements, music or news individuals wish to hear.

There are also a number of online resources for those interested in vocal and choral music. Organizations in this category are few and far between. While this is the case, individuals looking for information on choral groups may also want to check out the many sites dedicated to singing. These singing social networking sites and others like ChoralNet generally offer discussion boards, performance schedules, events and other information.

Dance communities include those related to one style and those which are inclusive of a number of different styles. The Voice of Dance and DanceMedia are two of the most popular online dance communities on the web. There are also organizations which offer weekly and bi-weekly dances, summer dance camps and other events. Some of these include Dance Freedom, Dance New England and Barefoot Boogie. While most who attend these dances and events are locals, professional dancers have also been known to attend these events.

There are also organizations inclusive of all the arts. Some of these are the Minneapolis Artists Collective, The McKnight Foundation and the Walker Art Center New Media Initiatives Group. The New England Foundation for the Arts can provide a directory of local artists in all categories.

Whether an artist painting a masterpiece, an actor, a dancer, or a musician, these sites can help artists in different ways. As some organizations have been around for years and others are new, it is often good to search the web to find more information on an organization. To do so, type the name of the organization into any search engine, then click on any links of interest.
