Hard hats are a type of helmet that are mostly used in workplaces such as construction sites. These are used to protect the head from getting injured by falling objects, debris, bad weather, electric shocks and impacts with other objects. After all, security of the human life is a big concern in any field of work, especially those dangerous in dangerous environments.

Working in construction is one of the most dangerous job, which requires a high level of safety measures. If anything is dropped, it can be very lethal the higher its drop point is and impacts resulting in head wounds are considered the most lethal of all. This can be very serious problem that is why employers require hats to be worn at all times.

The hats must be worn all times, which is for the protection of our body, especially the brain, ears, nose, eyes and mouth. Just one injury can be able to make you a handicap for life. Aside from the helmet, equipment such as eye goggles, steel toe boots, protective clothing and safety gears are used to protect to the whole body.

These helmets are made to resist puncture from objects and to absorb the shocks from a blow. Most of them are also resistant to electricity and water and they should not easily get burned and must be properly ventilated for the comfort of the wearer. In the past they were made mostly of aluminum metal and fiberglass though the now they are mostly made of plastic which are very firm, durable, and light.

They are labeled into three different industrial classes. The most commonly used among them is the class A because it provides good impact absorption, but limited voltage protection. They are usually used when constructing buildings, shipbuilding, lumbering, manufacturing and mining. However, the best option when working with electricity are the class B.

Aside from protection from falling objects, the employees can also be protected against high voltage shocks and burns. However, class C are designed more for comfort and they are light weight, but offers only limited safety. They can protect workers from bumping against fixed objects, but not from falling materials or electric shocks.

They can be accessorized and be fitted with visors, ear protectors, mirrors, headlamp or flashlight and thick insulation pads. Sweatbands and chinstraps are also required to prevent the hat from slipping and it might become a potential hazard to those working below. For road maintenance workers, their hats are pasted with reflective materials or fluorescent strips to add safety to their jobs.

With correct inspection and care, they can be employed for five years before it should be replaced. They also come in different colors to signify the roles on the job site. For example, white often worn by supervisors or engineers, blue for technical advisers and green is commonly worn by safety inspectors.

The blue ones may be for the technical advisers, green for safety inspector or maybe the medical staff, new employees and even visitors are often required to wear a different color to identify them. Hard hats should be cleaned regularly to extend its shelf life. The most important thing of all is that they should be worn at all times for maximum protection of everyone.
