I look at myself rational, logical, and aware more than enough to know as soon as I'm falling short of these golden posts. I am admittedly a smaller cynical about tarot card readings and clairvoyance (although I do feel you will find persons accessible with strange abilities), and I wouldn't pay somebody to throw runes for me, yet, I believe astrology is worth a look.
I wont tell you that it's due to the fact it's 'scientific', but I will assert that it's at least a small measurable, which means it really is tested.
Firstly, I have to establish what astrology is, and just isn't (and consequently what I am defending). What it is: It's (in natal chart reading) the interpretation (and interpretations are pretty set, not open to person interpretation) on the planets as they have been at the time of the folks birth, and consequently how that person's personality (potential) is mapped out. It is also the interpretation (again, pretty set) from the constant movement in the planets, and how they 'trigger' parts of the person's natal chart, so therefore what influences will likely be manifesting for the person on that day / month / year.
It isn't the horoscope section on the local paper, or girly magazine.
The reason I started to understand astrology was basically that I couldn't think you could divide the entire populus of the world into 12 'categories'. The first issue I learned was that you simply couldn't. You have probably heard persons say 'oh but my father is really a Leo, and he's Practically nothing like my son, who can be a Leo' (read: therefore, based on this 'evidence', astrology isn't 'true'. To this, I bring out 5 natal charts of Leos that I have, and it's instantly clear that apart inside sun sign (Leo), the charts are all completely different.
Natal charts are multi-faceted / layered concepts. The first layer may be the signs all the planets which rule various kinds of the personality) are in. In turn, each of these planets is thrown like die into some, many, or all of the 'houses' inside a person's chart. Each household 'rules' particular areas of life; a concentration of planets in a single shows the same in life: many exercising or focus on that area of life. Then you've the relationship in between the planets, that's decided by the sign they fall into. This will show you internal harmony or conflict, and external harmony and conflict.
Next comes the interpretation on the relationships by the astrologer. As mentioned above, there are reasonably hard and fast rules for each feasible relationship. For example, a Moon (emotional nature) in Scorpio (intensity, passion, obsession) squaring (90 degrees difference in between two planets, an internal conflict) a Venus (love nature, expression of beauty) in Aquarius (freedom seeking, independent, anti-establishment) will be interpreted being a conflict among emotional needs and love needs. This may manifest as an individual becoming attracted to someone with Aquarian traits, but very emotionally needing an individual who will bond with them over a deepest level possible (Scorpio). So you get a freedom junkie, simply because that may be what you might be attracted to, but you luck out during the emotional department, due to the fact that individual needs much more freedom than your obsessive emotional nature can give.
