This is an activity that is older than the act of recording history. It began as a practical need. It brought food and supplies such as clothing into the home. Useful tools and skills such as controlling fire also came about as a result of its practice. A use was found for almost every piece of the animal. Necessity truly became the mother of invention in this case.

This sport is universal and well supported. Regardless of whether or not people hunt themselves, they are overwhlemingly in favor of its legal practice. That support is reflected in the amount of tax dollars allocated for it. Hundreds of millions are spent in the United States alone on managing wildlife programs, purchasing land, and on programs to educate and promote safety.

There is no single way to practice the sport of hunting. Targets vary from big game to fowl to deer. Methods vary from stalking to using a stand. Seasons and locations of choice vary.

Other factors to consider are weapons, tools and clothing. Regulations often dictate the use of weapon. Experience also adds to knowing when to wear safety orange or camouflage or when to use a call of some sort.

This plethora of potential topics has led to a wealth of television program ideas. Many have found great success on the airwaves. For over twenty years, The American Outdoorsman has been a staple of outdoor oriented TV. This program features exotic places along with general information. Hunters of all levels can relate to the episodes.

North American Hunter is another popular choice. This is one of the TV hunting shows where the host is followed as he explores the world. Some shows, such as Remington Country, seek to offer strategies and tips to apply in more everyday hunting experiences.
