Believing that there are any disadvantages to owning a sports car may be hard for most of us who can't afford to own one, but there are disadvantages. Of course the benefits are more visible, but consider these before you buy a sports car.

The benefits of owning a sports car include the fact that driving one makes you immediately appear to belong in the ranks of the rich and famous. The more impressive you will appear to be if the model of your sports car is newer. Depreciating slower than a coupe type is the convertible and this is something to consider when you're choosing a sports car.

A sports car offers another benefit and that would be the speed and performance. Sounding far more impressive are their more powerful engines and they also offer more horsepower. According to many opponents, you will have to be prepared to spend some money on speeding tickets because you may be getting a lot of them and there is also little opportunity to speed in a sports car.

Sports cars tend to be recession-proof, as they cater for the high end of the car market where luxury and wealth go hand in hand. The less striking models tend to depreciate slower as well, although many who buy sports car are looking for the flash exterior rather than just performance. It's unlikely for the sellers to get their investments back in full.

The disadvantages of owning a sports car include the expense of repair and often hard to come by spare parts. Because of this reason, the insurance for these cars are even more expensive. A seldom comfortable means of transport is a sports car and you can't use them as passenger or family vehicles because most of them are only two-seaters. Sports cars are bought as second cars and kept as a hobby or status symbol rather than being used regularly because of the fact that they are considered as gas guzzlers. It would seem a shame to spend all your money on a car that you will only be using once a week unless of course, you are included in the ranks of the mega-wealthy.

When it comes to sports cars, they are all about the impression they make on the people who see you driving it. Power and performance of the car is what it's all about and this is what passionate sports car owners will tell you. Regardless of the reason, an investment best made when you can really afford to buy a car that is most certainly beautiful but not practical is a sports car.
