You may want to learn how to train your voice because you are interested in a career as a professional singer or because singing is a hobby, either way the following tips will help you to get the desired results. Your posture, breathing, emotions and volume all impact your singing. To start with follow the guidelines given below.

Posture: Always start singing while you are standing. Place your feet apart at shoulder width. Bend your knees as you stand because locking them for too long may cause unconsciousness. Hold your back and neck straight. You can hold turn your head upwards or downwards depending on the notes that you want to sing. Try not to turn your head sideways because this will be bad for you neck and look strange. The best way to stand is to look straight ahead and relax.

When practicing you should place your hands on your stomach so that you can monitor your breathing. Breathe deeply and quietly filling your lungs completely. You should breathe through your nose and not your mouth. When you inhale you should feel your abdomen and diaphragm expand upwards and contract when you exhale. The exhalation should be down slowly conserving every last bit of air so that you can reach the higher notes before you need to breathe again.

While singing your mouth should be shaped round, small and circular. You should make sure that you don't open your mouth too much or too less as this will cause hindrance in breathing. By increasing the hollow space inside the mouth you can create more fuller and rounder sounds. To do so you will need to rest your tongue at the floor of your mouth and elongate your jaw slightly. This mouth position will help you to increase the hollow space inside the mouth.

Many singers have unclear speech and they tend to mingle the consonant sounds, the right way is to pronounce each sound distinctly. For certain songs you may have to stress some of the words in the lyrics.

It is important to sing loudly enough for you to be able to hear yourself. If you cannot hear yourself there is a good chance that you will sing off key. However it is important to remember that singing softly or loudly should take the same amount of breath. If you experience vocal strain you are not doing it right. It is important to use diaphragmatic breathing through out the song to control the volume variations. A cue is to bring your right and left hands forward one after the other to increase volume.

Your emotions will inevitable be reflected in your voice, so use them to your advantage. For instance, to create a melancholic effect you should carry a somber expression on your face.
