Jaguar hasn't been doing too well with its recent cars. The car market has been hurting in general and Jaguar's line-up featured nothing new or exciting. But this all changes with Jaguar's flagship vehicle receiving a complete redo inside and outside.
The luxury market is one that is extremely competitive but the goal of the 2011 Jaguar XJ is to draw in automotive shoppers who may want something different. And the new XJ looks downright sinister. This four door sedan is accented by sweet 20" rims and has a big supercharged V-8 engine from which it gets all of its power.
The exterior design has also been infused with some new life. The glass line has been changed a bit and extended with the rear sloping down to meet the trunk. The roof looks much lower almost like the car has been chopped. The Jaguar looks like it has one unbroken large piece of side glass, tinted of course.
Multiple variations are available for this luxury car with regards to wheel base and motors. The XJ version has the shorter 119in. wheel base and the XJL (L for large) has a 124in. wheel base. The very base model checks in at $72,500 with a DOHC five V-8 motor that produces a substantial 385 hp 385 lb. ft. of torque. The top of the line buys you a supercharged version of the engine cranking out 510 hp and 461 lb. ft. or torque, it also gets you the larger wheel base. Price for everything is $115k for this: the super sport model. Each model comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The XJ sports an advanced suspension system. The XJ suspension is comprised of continuously variable dampeners. The body though has been made eleven percent stiffer over the 2010 model. The car weighs just over 4,000 lbs., which in the world of luxury cars is considered not heavy at all. This helps the XJ perform similar to a car half its size.
In terms of speed, the XJ will rock your world because this car can go super fast. Performance figures check in at 0-60 MPH in 4.4 seconds with the quarter mile zooming by in 12.7 seconds. Surprisingly faster than a Camaro SS or Mustang GT which consider themselves drag strip bruisers. Fuel economy checks in at 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway for the smaller engine and 15 mpg city 21 mpg highway for the 510 hp version. The Jaguar has an electronically controlled rear differential to put the power down. The interior was designed to be opulent and luxurious with rich and high quality leather appointed seating, gorgeous wood trim and ample accessories. The gauges grow bright where the needle is and the XJ has a sport mode. The Jaguar XJ also rocks a state of the art stereo with amazing sound.
Sales in the US haven't been too great, but Jaguar hope the new XJ will attract buyers who want an alternative to the more common Benz or BMW.
