The multiple emergency lights for vehicles are designated by their colors and used in different fields. Since the colors have different uses depending what area they are used in for this reason the article below will focus mainly on the ones used all over the USA. The light fixtures are generally connected to light bars and other types of mounting systems.

The best known colors include blue, red, amber, yellow, white, green and purple. Some colors are used for private or commercial use where as other ones are used strictly by government agencies. The area where a person lives also plays a role because each state uses different colors for different things.

To begin with the Amber or Yellow light is used for utility automobiles and other slow moving machines. These include street sweepers, tractors and other heavy equipment that are required to drive down the road. In an effort to alert pedestrians and motorists that the machine is travelling in their direction the construction field uses this color combination and use it quite effectively.

One of the two most famous colors of all time and all around the world is Blue. This color of light is synonymous with law enforcement all across the globe. It is also commonly used with a red light on US police cars and trucks which provide an alternating strobe effect. This color is also used by itself when designating a fire chief or fire commander vehicle and is usually fixed to the roof of said vehicle.

Fire commanders and chiefs usually prefer the color green for their cars and trucks. This is because it blends quite nicely with red and allows them to move freely through traffic during disaster situations. Volunteer fire fighters have also adopted green as a shade of choice when going from home to the station in a big hurry.

A not so common color is the color purple, this shade is generally associated with funerals and is connected to the lead and rear cars. White another somewhat known color that is used on a school bus, a tow truck and in some cases rescue equipment. Red is known for its use on Ambulances and Fire Trucks which gives them a bright strobe effect drawing attention to them.

Since there are so many emergency lights for vehicles today it is nice to know what the colors mean. Having knowledge of color schemes allows for easier recognition when determining vehicle type along with agency affiliation. The colors will vary depending on what part of the world they are used in and still vary quite a bit in the US alone from state to state.
