Pregnancy is something that sends everyone around into a frenzy, (we're talking about us girls here) and the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear that someone is pregnant is SHOPPING. Shopping for that perfect gift can be a nightmare though and so I have put together a list of the top 5 gifts that I have given, and I have been to a lot of baby showers in my time. So check out the list and find one that fits your next baby shower occasion
1. Nappies, diapers, call them what you will - they are boring, but they are brilliant as a gift and no one ever wants to give them because they are so dull, but this is a pity because every parent i know always talks about the nappies and practical presents before they talk about the fancy key chains and photo frames!
2. Layettes, blankets, socks and burp cloths. Chances are they are going to get tons of these. However, these gifts tend to come in newborn or 3 months sizes which after a few weeks probably won't serve its purpose anymore. Making this a great gift is if you buy them in larger sizes. After a few months, mom still has brand new gifts for the baby to enjoy.
3. Pamper products and care for that new Mom. So often the baby shower becomes all about the new baby and Mom gets overlooked. During this new period in her life she will definitely not look after herself ahead of the baby, so get her a gift that allows her to take a much deserved break.
4. Lightweight stroller and Baby Car seats are a necessity, and if you are the one who provies the gift - you will forever be remembered for your generosity. You can also get covers for the baby car seat to make cleaning them easier. They also look great and come in a range of colours!
5. Gift certificates. Seems like the 'I can't think of anything' gift but realistically this is one of the best gifts you can get. Quite often the new family does not know what they will actually need until of course ... they need it, so giving them the chance to choose their own gifts is something that they will really value and cherish when they do go out and spend it.
Tip: I recommend not buying clothes, and leaving this to the parents to do. Often the new parents to be will be given clothes from family and friends, besides, babies grow so quickly, chances are they will never get a chance to wear it.
