4. Shopping & Auction Sites

It's widely known, photographers are gadget-junkies! We are always looking for that next piece of must-have camera kit that we simply cannot function at our best without. The simple fact we have functioned quite alright for years without it does not matter... When we know it's out there we must have it. Sound all to familiar?

The flip side is, quite often we have got just as much gear we should really get rid of... once again, if the internet was made for us then I am sure the creators of eBay are either photographers themselves, or they've got a few in the family. So bookmark it and use it. If you've got a cupboard of old camera equipment that's not been used in years get it out and put it up for auction, while it still has some value!

Pro photography is generally a solo career so the facility to have interaction with your peers online should not be taken lightly. We all see dozens of pictures on any given day, but to be in a position to look at new photographs and discuss them with other photographers is priceless. Pre-Internet, it was something that only happened at Camera Clubs or waiting around at the Pro-Lab, but the internet forums and portal sites now give working photographers to capability to engage with their peers, share ideas and info and truly grow as artists. And if you're not making excellent use of them, you're quite possibly stagnating!

Step 4 in increasing your chances of getting on any vocal reality show should be that you might want to consider getting getting vocal coaching or vocal training.

You need to be realistic with your vocal talents. Have you had vocal coaching or lessons? The aforementioned aren't a prerequisite; however, these tactics can be beneficial to a career. In reality, in my entire vocal career, other than the Italian voice classes in college, I can count on one hand how many vocal lessons I had. So, it is not mandatory but can benefit you and help develop proper technique and breathing and give you additional tools in your arsenal.

I endorse vocal coaching if you can find someone who that is an expert in the field and can help you. Vocal coaching goes beyond just voice lessons; an expert can help you develop your character and bring out the "Rock Star" in you. Keep in mind that few, if any, of the judges for the regional auditions, the pre-Idol judges, have been through the Idol gauntlet as a singer and/or have spent time on the "other side of the glass" as a recording artist. In fact, many of these regional judges are people with no singing talent at all. However, most do have some sort of expertise in entertainment. So, you must impress the judges in your regional auditions. Making it past the regional judges can be accomplished with a well thought out plan and interesting song choices.

When considering vocal coaching or vocal lessons you may have to go through a half dozen different people. You don't want to just choose the first coach you meet. Carefully considering each coach and consider what they can help you with.

For example. If you are a country singer you may not want to go to someone that is a classical vocal coach. You may learn some tips and tricks from them but they may not "Get" what you are trying to become. Carefully choose your coach, or mentor, and develop a great relationship with that person. Singing is as much about getting comfortable with yourself as it is feeling comfortable with the person you are learning from.
