If you've ever learnt to play an instrument, you will know that there's one thing which will determine whether you are good at it or not. That one thing is practice.

Practicing a piano is not an exception to this. The masters of the ivories got where they were today from days, months and years of practice.

So what is the one thing that stops people from practicing? Boredom. Many of us stop practicing the piano just because it's no longer fun. Their need to learn having been worn down from hour after hour of the same exercises.

How can you stop becoming bored of practicing? You make piano fun!

Here's some ideas to get you going.

New Pieces Songs

One of the most important reasons pupils stop practicing piano is they become bored of playing the same songs over and over. So your first activity is to discover a new song to learn and practice.

This may give you new eagerness, something fresh and adds more variety to your lessons. Try and pick something that's in a different style from what you are practicing.

Change The Tempo

Speed has a huge impact on how a song sounds. Changing the speed can make a classical piece sound more like a show tune, or turn a funky style tune into jazzy lounge song.

Go over your song again and this time start to play it slower or faster. How does it sound?

Mess around with the beat and timing, place accent on different notes. You will discover how easy and fun it is to absolutely change the way a song feels.

Get Faster and Faster

If you are getting bored of practicing the same piece, now's the time to turn up The speed. Begin at a standard pace and see how briskly you can play your piece.

Don't stop if you make a mistake, keep pushing ahead and see if you can finish it.

When you do, try it again and see how snappy you can go without making a mistake. When you bring it back to regular speed, you can realize how much more straightforward it seems to play it now.

In our next article, we will be taking a look at more methods to add some fun to your piano practice!
