After all the excitement about the return of the Camaro not too long ago, the recent news and the forthcoming 2011 Camaro pictures is somewhat underwhelming. It's not that there's anything wrong, there just is not a whole lot of change compared to the 2010.

The power specifications for the V6 look better in 2011 than in 2010. Horsepower went from 304 HP to 312 HP. Torque went from 273 lb-ft to 278 lb-ft. The engine is unchanged, only the specifications are improved. This is because the SAE certification data was not ready in time for 2010, so General Motors had to estimate conservatively. Now that the certification is done, they have switched to the numbers from it. There are no other performance changes from 2010 to 2011.

Fans of the paper power derby will note that the V6 Camaro is thus passing the comparable Mustang on horsepower. The Mustang is still slightly ahead in fuel economy, 29 or 30 MPG for the Mustang against 29 MPG for the Camaro. This will definitely not bring the which is better conversation to an end.

The best news for the driver is that the Head Up Display (HUD) that was developed for the Corvette, is being adapted for some models of the 2011 Camaro. This HUD will display key information, including speed and RPM, on the windshield. The HUD will also display OnStar navigation instructions.

If you like the new Synergy Green, note that it will be available on all Trim Levels of the 2011. It was first issued on the 2010 Synergy Special Edition Camaro and then offered on the 1LT Trim Level. Due to its popularity, it is being made more available.

The new Camaro SS Convertible seems to be in the works. It's not mentioned on the official site, but a number of rumors in web postings suggest it will be announced soon. It will be a rag top with a glass rear window and small quarter windows. It will come with its own spoiler concept and an antenna that looks sort of like a shark fin on the trunk.

At one time it was thought that the Camaro Z28 relaunch would be in the 2011 model year, but it looks now like it will be in 2012. This delay may be due to General Motors recent financial crisis. It may get 556 horsepower out of a 6.2 liter supercharged V8. It will probably be available towards the end of 2011.

As in 2010, the 2011 model has two choices of V8 engine, depending on which transmission is selected. The 6.2 liter LS3 comes with the 6 speed manual. It is good for 426 horsepower at 5900 RPM and 420 lb-ft at 4600 RPM. The 6 speed automatic transmission comes with the 6.2 liter L99, which puts out 400 horsepower at 5900 RPM and 410 lb-ft at 4300 RPM. Its Active Fuel Management system shuts down half of the cylinders when the load is light. This improves the fuel mileage.

After looking at the 2011 Camaro interior pictures the materials are not high quality, but it has a definite retro feeling. The instruments are up to date and well done. Drivability is not enhanced by the shapes of the steering wheel and manual shift lever, and the position of the gas pedal. The backseat is small, which is common in this kind of vehicle. The trunk can be hard to load because of its small opening.

As you can see from the 2011 Camaro pictures it is a step up, just not a big one. It has improvements, just nothing dramatic. If you want drama, stay tuned for the upcoming convertible and Z28.
